Attorney / Partner
Why are you working at Hertoghs?
Every day, I wake up with a clear purpose: to bring the best out of myself so I can achieve the best outcomes for my clients. This isn’t just a dream at Hertoghs, it’s reality. Hertoghs provides fertile ground where creativity and in-depth legal knowledge intertwine and blossom into tangible results.
What attracts you in Hertoghs’ areas of expertise?
I'm drawn to the harmony between in-depth, substantive knowledge and strategic expertise. This synergy comes alive in the fields of Hertoghs, where I get to exercise my passion for the profession of criminal law and tax litigation on a daily basis.
What is your particular expertise and how did you develop it?
My area of expertise lies in criminal cases concerning financial fraud. More precisely, I frequently handle cases involving tax fraud, money laundering, corruption, forgery, bankruptcy fraud, or cybercrime. Many of these cases carry a fiscal or international component. Within this scope, I also manage any connected tax proceedings. Furthermore, I maintain an expansive international network and relish in the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the Netherlands and abroad. Notably, my cases often involve politically sensitive elements and attract media attention. I navigate these complexities with tact, ensuring the best outcome for my clients while carefully managing any potential publicity.
What is your definition of a good attorney?
Listening. Truly listening. Immersing myself in my client and their industry, creating innovative strategies that go beyond the beaten path. This requires in-depth substantive knowledge but also the ability to connect people and institutions and listen to the interests of the other party as well in order to seek solutions. Proceedings are sometimes unavoidable, but the resolution of a case can often be found much broader. At any rate, case management is bespoke! I characterise myself as a determined person that goes above and beyond: where there is a will there is a way. Furthermore, I am committed, creative, decisive, analytical, pragmatic, and, above all, an excellent listener.
What can you share about your private life?
I love spending time with my family in the mountains. Just as in my professional life, I aim for the summit in my personal life too. For me, climbing represents pushing boundaries, persevering, learning, and growing.
