Attorney / Partner
Why are you working at Hertoghs?
Hertoghs allows me to reach my full potential and hence achieve the best possible results for my clients every single day. At Hertoghs, good and creative plans actually get developed, which offers a dynamic working environment. Our clients and confidentiality are always key and if necessary we go to extremes!
What attracts you in Hertoghs’ areas of expertise?
I am interested in the dynamics between in-depth specialist knowledge, in setting out a good strategy based on the facts and the interests of the client.
What is your particular expertise and how did you develop it?
I specialise in criminal cases involving financial fraud. More specifically, this often has to do with tax fraud, money laundering, corruption, forgery or cybercrime. Many of these cases also have a fiscal or international element. In that context, I also handle any related tax proceedings. Furthermore, I have a broad international network and I enjoy working together with colleagues both national and abroad.
What is your definition of a good attorney?
I think that, as a good attorney, you listen to your client and study their sector. Based on that, you come up with the best way forward, which does not necessary follow the beaten track. Sometimes you need to think outside the box. In-depth specialist knowledge is important, but other aspects matter as well, such as interactions with people, authorities and stakeholders. While legal proceedings are unavoidable at times, issues can occasionally also be resolved out of court. As an attorney, you sometimes shoulder some of the burden for your clients and sometimes you team up with them. An attorney provides tailor-made services. To characterise myself I would use the following adjectives: committed, responsible, decisive, analytical, pragmatic and attentive. Also, I like to come up with creative solutions and have a great sense of responsibility.
What can you share about your private life?
Besides spending time with my family, I love also being in the mountains. Climbing is a big part of my life. In climbing, you push your limits every day, you are constantly improving yourself by trying and learning.
