Why are you working at Hertoghs?

I came across Hertoghs law firm when I was working for NautaDutilh. Hans Hertoghs invited me over for a chat and asked if I was interested in heading this office. To cut a long story short: I said 'yes' and shortly thereafter became its managing director.

What attracts you in Hertoghs’ areas of expertise?

I like the niche firm we have established with its focus on tax and criminal law. I think that the clear focus on providing legal assistance in tax proceedings and fraud cases is a very good one. The legal assistance we offer our clients is based on professionalism, drive and ambition. And I am happy to add my contribution to this. The fact is, our clients are entitled to the best possible assistance. That is what drives me.

What is your expertise and what are your strengths?

Overall, managing this firm and supporting our people in all kinds of ways is my expertise. However, that answer is too simple. What matters, above all, is to create an environment in which people can thrive and are motivated to develop themselves. That is my strength. At the same time, it is important to put everything into perspective. You must make time and space for yourself if you want to perform well. For me, this is essential.

What can you share about your private life?

Many things come to mind. My wife, children and family are my bedrocks. I am a family man. And my friends are, of course, important to me, I like having a drink with them. Physical exercise is key. Being at the gym with my trainer, cycling, mountain biking, running, walking, give me energy. In addition, I chair a windmill foundation (Stiching Molen de Korenbloem). The windmill is in Ulvenhout and my father used to own it, he was the miller. It is very important to me to preserve this windmill as part of our cultural heritage.
